Gray Bay

Gray Bay is the long stretch of marshes that run north east from Palm Island up to Boneyard Beach. Most people avoid the area as it is known for being mirelurk territory, and no settlements have been built there. Occasionally groups of hunters will set up outposts in the areas to use as a base-of-operations during mirelurk hunts.

History

After the washout, Gray Bay was left as one of the least irradiated marshes due to its proximity to the ocean. The area grew into dense wetlands and the soft ground left it unsuitable for building. With the lack of human interference, creatures like mirelurks moved in and made the area their home.

Hunters will travel up the Pleasant Highway towards Laurel Hills before striking southeast to set up camps along the northwestern edge of the swamp. Some may even venture further southeast towards Palm Island to set up camps near the small settlement.

Local Legends

Fisherman and hunters familiar with Gray Bay tell a story of the Gray Man, a ghost reportedly seen on the coasts of Charleston that warns residents of coming severe storms and hurricanes.

Legend holds that the Gray Man is the ghost of a young man traveling from Charleston to see his fiancée. On the way, he and his horse were caught in quicksand-like pluff mud in the marshes, and died. His spirit has haunted the shore nearby ever since, looking for the girl he loved.
