Palm Island
Palm Island is a smaller fishing and clam farming community, the settlement is located on the far east edge of Pleasant Sands. The citizens of Palm Island live in relative peace as the “end of the line” for a lot of traders making the clam run; however, the marshes surrounding the town have become a breeding ground for a variety of dangerous creatures.
History
Over the course of generations, the survivors of Charleston spread out across the area, and none spread out further than the folks at Palm Island. The original founders decided to establish the settlement when they discovered the abundance of clams living in the salt water marshes.
What they scavenged from the ruins of the houses in the area, they were able to cobble together a generator, a water purifier, and a few semi-permanent structures.
The trade lines they established with Whispering Palms and Sullivan's Hideout became enough to expand the settlement into the small village it is today.
Over the years, Palm Island has established itself of one of the best places to get clams in the Pleasant Sands area. Hunters will also travel to the area to stock up on supplies before going to hunt in Gray Bay.
Notable People
Palm Island is a small fishing and clam farming community, but most visitors will interact with a few of the citizens.
Lindsay Durant
Part mayor, part chamber of commerce, Lindsay Durant is the smiling face of Palm Island. Here to buy clams? Maybe some Red Drum? How about some whiskey? Lindsay Durant can point you to just who you need to talk to.
Stan Bonnie
The ghoul owner, distiller, brewer, and bartender of the 19th Hole, Stan slings gut-rot whiskey and cloudy beers to the fisherman and farmers of Palm Island. He isn't much of a gossip but he always loves a good fisherman's tale.
Lacy Lane
Bartender at the the 19th Hole while Stan is busy in the back, she's a favorite of the local fisherman due to her striking looks. Her uncle, Orville, is an old-hat spiney fisherman down the road at Whispering Palms.
Locations
Palm Island is a small settlement built on a pre-war golf course. The town itself is built around the clubhouse and a few holes of the course. The rest of the course is used to cultivate clams and scavenging.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse is the town hall, municipal center, supply storage, and market place for the town. Inside the generators and water pumps that keep the town alive are kept safe from the elements, while farmers and visiting traders set up stalls in the parking lot outside. The junk walls of the town wrap around just north of the clubhouse. A junk gate was built just north west of the clubhouse as a central point of entry into the town proper. The road from here wraps east then due south out of the area and towards Whispering Palms.
The 19th Hole
Built into the clubhouse was a bar named the 19th Hole where golfers would drink to celebrate (or forget) the day's round. Stan Bonnie renovated the ruined bar and turned it into a multi-purpose bar, distillery, and brewery.
Holes 10-13
Holes 10-13 of the pre-war golf course were built on an elevation and are some of the dryest and solid land to build on in the area. This is where most of the citizens reside in junk structures created using parts from the surrounding ruins of pre-war houses. That same junk was used to create the walls that extend from the clubhouse down to the southern tip of the area.
The Fields
The clam farming fields of Palm Island are formed by holes 1, 7, 8, 9, and 14 of the pre-war golf course. The road leading into Palm Island runs through this area and towards the clubhouse. The perimeter has small makeshift fences, and similar fences are used to split up the plots of various farmers.
